About Dayo

The meaning in West Africa of the word Dayo is “Joy Arrives”.

A delightful word which to me symbolises the joy that comes to women and men in developing countries when rewarded for their exquisite work with fair wages and working conditions.

I started Dayo Fair Trade to make a difference as there are still millions of people being exploited through unfair, unsafe and often forced work around the world.  It is both a way to showcase beautiful creations from talented artisans and a way to empower those artisans to support themselves and their families.

As a mother I want to prevent children working in sweatshops, being sold or trafficked under pretences of a job.  One of the main ways to do this is to provide parents with a fair wage to support their family.

Every time I look at something fair trade I know that someone is empowered and not disempowered, valued not devalued and they are what it’s all about.
