Why choose fair trade?

Like many young people I scrimped and saved and embarked on many an adventurer overseas. However all that “going without” in Australia would never prepare me for the poverty I saw and the heartbreak I felt when I saw real poverty.

The kind of poverty where 6.6 million children in the world die before they turn 5. Where entire families live on the side of the road or in makeshift abodes with one room for cooking, eating, sleeping… Where everything they own collectively could fit in my backpacker’s backpack. Where children are sold and young people leave their village looking for work and end up under lock and key in brothels.

What is the light at the end of the tunnel for millions of people?

Wanted Workers for our Large Manufacturing Premises making childrens’ products for USA, Canada, Australia and UK:

Wage is 2 cents per product made
Working hours are between 10- 18 hours per day 6 days a week 7 if needed
Unsafe working conditions
No age restriction- children welcome
No labour laws or workers rights apply
No sick leave, annual leave or holiday pay

I started Dayo Fair Trade because I want to change that! How can humans be treated so inhumanely- all in the name of higher profits.

No one should have to be forced to make the choice between the kind of job listed above and no job at all.

Our affluent privileges are often at the expense of another’s suffering but they don’t need to be.

Buying fair trade products creates fair jobs

Fair Trade Job Ad:

A fair wage
Safe working conditions
Work near where you and your family live
Labour laws and workers rights apply

Wouldn’t it be great if we had handfuls of these Job Ads to pass them into hands that really need them?  Through fair trade we do and cooperatives are forming in places all over the world.  Thank you for being a part of it :)
